While this bench is designed as an outdoor piece, it is also used indoors as either a seat or coffee table. Our Woodland Boulder Seat is the versatile bench that is sure to be a family heirloom passed down for generations.
About The Materials
Granite is an igneous rock formed when volcanic lava cools beneath the earth’s surface. The internal cooling creates a course or medium-grained texture rich in quartz and feldspar. Granite is extremely resilient and requires no maintenance making it the ideal material for garden and park benches.
About The Design
Our Woodland Boulder Seat is beautifully designed to look like an overgrown grapevine is cradling a natural boulder seat. The bench is made by first selecting a granite boulder and slicing it like a loaf of bread into 2" thick pieces. These bench seats are then polished before they are sent to a blacksmith.
A blacksmith heats bars of iron until they are red hot in a coal fired forge. The iron bars are then hand-hammered, bent, and welded to be transformed into the form of a grapevine bench base. Each hand-forged base is custom fit to a specific boulder bench seat. Each bench seat will be a unique creation based on the boulder it is made from and each iron base will vary slightly based on the artistic interpretation of the craftsman that produced it.
Once the blacksmith is finished with the iron base it is then zinc plated and painted black to protect the metal from rusting. Finally, the iron vines are hand-painted with bronze accents, the leaves are finished with green accents, and the grapes are painted purple.
About The Finish
The Polished Finish process includes 7 steps of polishing the stone with progressively finer grit polishing pads after the stone is worked with saws, chisels and grinders. The end result is a finish that is as smooth as glass and beautifully reflective. The polished finish on the seat of our Woodland Boulder Seat is the perfect accompaniment to the iron-forged legs and yields a truly elegance bench.
